Resilient Gabon beat unlucky Cameroon – African Cup of Nations: Cameroon 0-1 Gabon

January 13, 2010

The surprises still continue in Angola, as the Black Panthers of Gabon today defeated the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the first Group D fixture of the African Cup Nations.

Gabon got off to a dream start when they found the opener through captain Daniel Cousin who beat goalkeeper Kameni with a placed shot on the 17th minute mark. After the goal, Cameroon enjoyed a healthy amount of possession but lack the much needed penetrative power in the final third of the pitch.

It was all Cameroon when the teams came back from recess. The Lions looked dangerous up front with Eto’o, Emana and Geremi having their shots saved by Ovono a number of times. In the final minute however, Gabon almost got their second goal through substitute Willy Aubameyang whose freekick from 36m out hit the crossbar.
