It was an exciting first half with both teams giving a good account of themselves. Cameroon were miles ahead of Zambia in terms of possession but could not produce a goal to show for their effort. It was the underdog Zambia, who took a shocking lead as early as the 7th minute through a close range finish by striker Jacob Mulenga. The goal came after a superb cross from Felix Katongo forced veteran defender Rigobert Song to head the ball towards his goal, hitting Kameni in the process and finally presenting a rebound opportunity to Mulenga.

Some of the main talking points of the first half where Jean Makoun stinging shot from long range; Kalaba’s fabulous free kick and Katongo’s rebound which forced goal keeper Kameni to make two brilliant saves back to back.

The tempo of the game shot up back from recess and it was a spectacle to watch the Cameroonians throw everything into attack. Disaster struck for Zambia in the 67th minute when a dreadful mistake by shot stopper Mweene let the ball slip under his arm and stroll into the net from a Geremi cross. Samuel Eto’o made it two for the Indomitable Lions when he picked up a lose ball off his body and smashed it into the net 5 minutes after.

Relentless Zambia took the game to Cameroon and got a penalty for an infringe just at the edge of the box. Goalkeeper Kameni the culprit. Captain Christopher Katongo scored from the spotkick sending the keeper the wrong way.

It didn’t take long for the Lions to get their tails up again. Geremi did maximum damage again when substitute, Mohammadou Idrissou headed home his cross to give Cameroon a huge boost to qualify for the next stage of the competition.

They stage is now set for a big show in the final group matches. All the teams-Tunisia, Cameroon, Gabon and Zambia – have a chance to qualifier for the quarterfinals of the competition.
